BC used car private sale: are my rights the same as buying from a dealer?
No. Buying from a VSA-licensed dealer gives you protections under BC consumer-protection legislation and access to VSA complaint processes. A private sale does not give you that same dealer-regulation framework, so evidence such as the advertisement, seller messages, inspection, lien search, bill of sale and any representations about the vehicle becomes especially important.
