England shop or premises fall: does the occupier automatically have to pay compensation?
No. The Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957 requires reasonable care for lawful visitors, but an accident alone does not prove breach or causation. The condition of the premises, inspections, warnings, foreseeability and evidence all matter. Official source: Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957.
