Ontario car dealer misrepresentation — what should I collect before an OMVIC complaint?
If a vehicle bought from an OMVIC-registered Ontario dealer was described inaccurately or important history or condition information may not have been disclosed, start by collecting the bill of sale, advertisement, vehicle history material, inspection or diagnostic records, repair invoices, photographs and all emails or messages with the dealer. OMVIC recommends first writing to the dealership with the concerns and supporting documents. OMVIC can review possible Motor Vehicle Dealers Act compliance issues and may facilitate a voluntary resolution, but it cannot order a dealer to cancel a contract, return money or carry out repairs. Current OMVIC guidance also lists mandatory written vehicle disclosures that apply when relevant. Official sources: OMVIC Complaints Process and Mandatory Disclosures.
