Travel insurance and cancelled flights: should I ask the airline first?
Often, yes. The UK Financial Ombudsman notes that travel insurers may not cover losses recoverable from another source. For cancellations or disruption, ask the airline, tour operator or travel provider for any refund or compensation first and keep written evidence if they refuse.
