Legal AI by Country: Find the Right Jurisdiction
The right answer begins in the right place.
Find your starting pointWhere should you start?
Choose legal AI by the jurisdiction of the issue, not only your current location or preferred language. Confirm the country and any relevant state, province, territory or legal system, then check local sources and topic coverage. A translated answer does not establish that the correct law has been used.
COUNTRY

LOCAL CONTEXT

SOURCE CHECK
Does the source apply to this issue and date?
Explore your country pathway.
One country first, then the local context where needed. Coverage varies by topic. English Canada excludes Quebec.

Which jurisdiction details should you check?
| Pathway | Context to confirm | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| United States / Australia | State or territory; local rules may also matter. | Choose the country hub, then the issue location. Do not transplant another state’s procedure. |
| United Kingdom | England & Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland; issue-specific differences can also matter. | Choose the relevant legal system before relying on a court or advice route. |
| English Canada | Province or territory; the GetInstantLaw English Canada pathway excludes Quebec. | Check federal versus provincial scope where relevant and use an appropriate Quebec-specific service if needed. |
| Other supported countries | National and local scope, issue type and source currency. | Open the country guide and read its coverage; a flag does not certify every legal topic. |
How do you choose the country for a legal question?
Use the facts of the issue: where the property is located, where work took place, where a sale occurred or which court sent a document. Your residence, device location and citizenship may not settle the question. If more than one country is involved, record that clearly and seek qualified help where jurisdiction is uncertain. A provider should ask for the missing context instead of silently assuming that its default market applies.
- Record the relevant locations and event dates.
- Keep any contract choice-of-law or court clause available for review.
- Do not guess the governing law in a cross-border dispute.
Why do state, province and legal system matter?
A national label can conceal different courts, forms and legal routes. GetInstantLaw’s pathways distinguish UK legal systems, Canadian provinces and territories, and state or territory context in Australia and the United States. That navigation is an organisational aid; it does not establish which law governs your particular situation. The same problem label — unpaid wages, a rental deposit or a refund — can require different sources and procedures depending on its location.
Which countries have GetInstantLaw pathways?
The flag grid below links to the site’s 16 public country pathways. It includes Thailand and Germany. English Canada is explicitly scoped outside Quebec. Availability of a country hub is not a claim that all topics, languages, professional services or paid features are covered equally. Read the individual guide and its source notes. For missing coverage or uncertainty, use an appropriate official service or a qualified local professional.
Does translation make a legal AI tool suitable for another country?
Translation helps you read a page. It does not turn one country’s law into another country’s law, validate a translated legal term or make a document acceptable to a court. Confirm the underlying jurisdiction separately and consult the original official source where possible. Before filing or signing something, check local language, format and professional requirements through the relevant service.
How can you check an answer before using it?
Ask the tool to identify the jurisdiction and source for the important statement. Open the source, check its date and scope, then compare it with your facts. Verify a deadline through the official court, tribunal or agency rather than relying solely on generated text. The UK Judiciary’s AI guidance discusses accuracy and confidentiality risks for judicial users; it is relevant context, not a universal consumer rule.
- A source from a different jurisdiction is a warning to pause.
- A real link can still be interpreted incorrectly.
- Seek qualified advice for disputed jurisdiction or serious consequences.
A few things to know before you choose.
Can one legal AI tool cover every country?
Do not assume universal coverage. Check the provider’s supported jurisdictions, topics, languages and source practices. The existence of a country selector is not proof of comprehensive coverage.
Which country should I choose if I live overseas?
Start with the location and legal context of the issue. Your current residence may be different. A cross-border problem may need advice about more than one jurisdiction.
Are paid Matters available in all 16 pathways?
No. Current paid checkout is enabled in nine: Australia, United States, English Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, India and Brazil. Check current availability on the offer page.
